Amanda Bynes has been added to the cast of movie musical "Hairspray," taking over the role Leslie Ann Powers played in the 1988 John Waters original. As perky Penny Pingleton, Bynes joins an all-star cast featuring Billy Crystal, Queen Latifah and John Travolta, who will bend genders as the colorful Edna Turnblad.

The film centers on pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad who winds up teaching 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.

The film is scheduled to begin shooting later this year for a potential summer 2007 release.
